Brian Vermeulen, President 


Brian is the President and Founder of both BV Land Consulting Ltd. and Northern Rockies Environmental Services Ltd. Brian has a long-standing history in the oil and gas industry and extensive background in Power and Agriculture. He has been an active surface landman since the beginning of 1994 and throughout the past 15 years has been heavily involved in overseeing field acquisition throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Northeastern British Columbia. From 1994 to 1998, Brian was with Encal Energy Ltd., which was one of the top 3 most active companies in the northeastern region of British Columbia. Other than overseeing field acquisition, his duties also include First Nations, community, government, corporate and media relations. Through Encal, Brian was heavily involved with CAPP (Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers) working on issues as they related to NE British Columbia.

In 1997, Brian was part of the Capp task group helping to formulate the MOU’s that the BC government negotiated with the seven Treaty 8 First Nations. As well, in 2000, Brian was part of another team drafting and formulating the new draft Public Consultation Guidelines for NEBC with the BC Oil and Gas Commission. Through CAPP, Brian has worked closely with various agencies of the Provincial Government of British Columbia and has developed strong working relationships with numerous Deputy and Assistant Deputy Ministers as well as with internal employees of the Oil and Gas Commission.

In January of 2001, Calpine acquired Encal and in January 2002, Brian left Calpine to start BV Land Consulting Ltd., specializing in Northeast British Columbia and Northwest Alberta to develop land access, and First Nations and regulatory affairs. He is presently a member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen. Brian has also held a position as Director and BC Chairman for the Small Explorers and Producers Association of Canada.
In September of 2007, with the help of Margi Twomey, Brian founded Northern Rockies Environmental Services Ltd. as a means of providing a greater range of services to their clients. With the addition of NRES Ltd., our team can provide complete and comprehensive land acquisition, consultation, and environmental services in the venues of oil and gas, mining, and power.



Cheryl Bush-Deakin, Office Manager/Senior Land Admin and Referral Tech


Cheryl brings over 16 years of land experience to BVLand Consulting.  Cheryl is an integral part of BVLand and NRES operations.  She is responsible for accounts receivable, and accounts payable, training and supervision of office staff, overseeing daily internal operations and project setups, and various other office duties.  She also prepares referral packages, works with government agencies on project approvals, acts as a liaison between clients and industries on third party agreements, facilitates and processes paperwork for oilfield projects; including surface lease and right-of-way agreements. In her spare time she volunteers as a board member of the Palliative Care Society.



Kevin Aitchison, Surface Landman Consultant


Kevin brings over 16 years of land acquisition experience to BVLand Consulting.  From 1993 to 1997, Kevin was acting as a landman consultant for a Fort St. John based land company.  In the fall of 1997, Kevin was hired by Encal Energy Ltd. to coordinate and oversee all of Encal’s surface acquisition, and aboriginal and community relations for their operations in Northeast British Columbia.  Kevin left Encal prior to the Calpine merger in 2001, and in the spring of 2003, he joined the BVLand team.  Kevin acts as a surface landman providing consulting services and handling land negotiations for a number of clients.  To date, Kevin has acquired well over 300 wells, and numerous pipelines in the Northeast region of British Columbia.



David Hohm, Surface Landman Consultant


David graduated with distinction from the Land Agent program at Olds College in 2007. After graduation he worked as a Land Agent for Strategic Land Services in Red Deer Alberta, dealing primarily with Coal Bed Methane wells for Trident Exploration in the Three Hills area. David Joined BV Land in May 2009, acting as a Surface Landman providing consulting services and handling land negotiations for a number of clients. He has worked closely with Bear Mountain Wind Power Corporation, Pavilion Pipeline, Tourmaline multi-pad well sites, and a number of smaller companies like Mancal, and Procyon dealing with single wells and small pipe projects. David has successfully negotiated over 100 files in Alberta, and deals with a variety of energy projects in the Northeast region of British Columbia.



Monica Keown, Surface Land Consultant/Referral Agent


Monica joined BVLand Consulting in October of 2007 to further her career in land consulting.  She brought with her 7 years of experience working in both the Alberta and British Columbia Oil and Gas sectors in both private and Crown land.  Early on in her career she worked as a notifications administrator, processing D56 public consultation letters, and associated mapping as required in Alberta.  Upon transferring to British Columbia, she was promoted to Administrative Assistant.  Her duties as administrative assistant consisted of preparing surface acquisition documentation for projects, third party requirements, and assisting in preparation of OGC applications.  As part of the BVLand team, Monica now prepares and submits various applications to the OGC.  She also coordinates third party requests, public consultation, and acquisition requirements.



Erin O’Donnell, Surface Land Consultant/Referral Technician


Erin graduated from the Land and Resource Management program at the Northern Lights College in 2004.  In September of 2004 she began working at BVLand Consulting.  The collaborative projects that she has managed involve working closely with construction field consultants, surveyors, First Nation’s communities, OGC staff, and professional experts in various disciplines.  Erin’s liaison work and educational experience has provided her with valuable insight into government and resource sector processes and challenges.



Nadine Smith, Receptionist/Administrator’s Assistant


Nadine joined BV Land in December 2008, and brings with her a positive presence and personality.  Nadine is responsible for greeting and assisting clients and business associates in person and by phone. While only with BV Land a short time she assists in preparing surface documentation for projects such as third party notifications and providing assistance in other areas of BV Land Consulting and Northern Rockies Environmental Services operations.
