Brian Vermeulen, President

Brian is the President and Founder of both BV Land Consulting Ltd. and Northern Rockies Environmental Services Ltd. Brian has a long-standing history in the oil and gas industry and extensive background in Power and Agriculture. He has been an active surface landman since the beginning of 1994 and throughout the past 15 years has been heavily involved in overseeing field acquisition throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Northeastern British Columbia. From 1994 to 1998, Brian was with Encal Energy Ltd., which was one of the top 3 most active companies in the northeastern region of British Columbia. Other than overseeing field acquisition, his duties also include First Nations, community, government, corporate and media relations. Through Encal, Brian was heavily involved with CAPP (Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers) working on issues as they related to NE British Columbia.

In 1997, Brian was part of the Capp task group helping to formulate the MOU’s that the BC government negotiated with the seven Treaty 8 First Nations. As well, in 2000, Brian was part of another team drafting and formulating the new draft Public Consultation Guidelines for NEBC with the BC Oil and Gas Commission. Through CAPP, Brian has worked closely with various agencies of the Provincial Government of British Columbia and has developed strong working relationships with numerous Deputy and Assistant Deputy Ministers as well as with internal employees of the Oil and Gas Commission.

In January of 2001, Calpine acquired Encal and in January 2002, Brian left Calpine to start BV Land Consulting Ltd., specializing in Northeast British Columbia and Northwest Alberta to develop land access, and First Nations and regulatory affairs. He is presently a member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen. Brian has also held a position as Director and BC Chairman for the Small Explorers and Producers Association of Canada.

In September of 2007, with the help of Margi Twomey, Brian founded Northern Rockies Environmental Services Ltd. as a means of providing a greater range of services to their clients. With the addition of NRES Ltd., our team can provide complete and comprehensive land acquisition, consultation, and environmental services in the venues of oil and gas, mining, and power.
