What's New?

2007-2008 ~ Review of policy & best managing practices for Oil & Gas activities in B.C. Northern Rockies Environmental Services (NRES) is working on a soil handling and erosion project. The project is funded by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, in partnership agreement with the
Ministry of Agriculture and Lands
and the B.C. Oil & Gas Commission (OGC). The objective of the project is to complete a literature review, indentifying the best soil handling practices for oil and gas development, which minimize the potential for soil loss and degradation. To determine the best soil handling practices, a literature review is being completed. Using the information from the literature review, a Soil Handling Questionnaire was created.

The questionnaire is being used to gather information from personnel who are completing the construction work on a daily basis and to determine what soil handling practices are currently being used. This will determine what works at a field level and what does not. All of the information gathered will be combined to create a clear, concise, "field friendly" guideline/manual to develop the changes necessary to aid the soil handling in oilfield construction. Our overall goal is to create less of a negative impact and at the same time, benefit other areas of the resource sector including mining and power.

At this point in time, the OGC and Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) are working together to create a Delegation Agreement for Compliance and Enforcement, with which the OGC wants to include our findings. A second phase of this project is also proposed.

2008 ~ Interm Wildlife Damage Compensation Program for B.C.
Northern Rockies Environmental Services Ltd. (NRES)
is presently working as the project
co-ordinators for a wildlife damage compensation program for all of the Province of British Columbia. The intent of this program will provide an end result that compensates any cattle producer whose unharvested forage crop intended for hay production has been damaged by wildlife. In a partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Ministry of Environment, and the B.C. Cattlemen's Association, NRES will assist in the development and implementation of this compensation program for the 2008 growing season.

2007-2009 ~ Bear Mt. Wind Power Project
BV Land Consulting
along with our subsidiary company Northern Rockies Environmental are presently working on the Bear Mountain Wind Power project at Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
This is one of two wind power projects that are presently in the construction phase in all of the Province of British Columbia. BV Land is handling the communication at a field level with the residents and general public, in areas of traffic management, transmission line acquisition, handling permitting requirements where needed with forestry and other stakeholders, including First Nations. Northern Rockies Environmental is handling the soil assessments and applications to meet the requirements for the Agriculture Land Commission. This project is a two year project, which we commenced working on back in September of 2007. Project completion with turbines operating and power flowing is anticipated before the end of December 2009.
