MS Climb 2010: Mount Kilimanjaro – Tanzania

I have taken on a new challenge this year and I wanted to fill you in.  On October 6th, 2010 I’ll be leaving for Tanzania, for the 2010 Multiple Sclerosis Climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise funds and help support this cause and a close friend who has MS.  I’ll be joining my brother Ron, who I have to say inspired me and I just could not resist in joining him and hopefully through this, provide brotherly support in making it to the top of the summit.  Also I could not think of a better way to celebrate Ron’s 50th birthday, than reaching the summit with him on that day and raising such awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis.  As an added bonus to this great cause and venture, our older brother Gary has joined the team.  So there you have it, the Brothers Vermeulen have teamed up for this climb, to enhance a very solid team/family approach for MS.

Of course with every cause, it takes supporters to help raise awareness and money to find a cure or any cause for that matter.  I am seeking donations to help support this climb and such a cause, and hopefully moral support that three 50 plus brothers have the legs and the strength to make such a journey.
With such an inspiration as this venture has developed into, we have started to develop some great ideas to enhance this venture and are having some real fun with it and for such a good cause.  With the use of satellite phones, SPOT GPS transmitters we will be able to send daily reports of the climb to keep people informed of how it’s going.

With the enhancement of the Vermeulen MS climbing team, I would like to throw out a challenge to the corporate sector.  For those donations over $500.00, your names will be added to the climbing team flag that will be unveiled at the summit on Oct 15th   (Ron’s Birthday).  Additional flags will be made up and will be signed by the climbing team and will be presented to those corporations/or even individuals that have made sizable donations/pledges of $500.00 or more.  The original flag from the summit will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, of course with all funds going to Multiple Sclerosis.
Here is my personal website if you would like to donate funds for this climb and cause. All A535 rub, tiger balm, cases of Advil will be covered by us.

Bear Mountain Wind Power Project

2007-2009
BV Land Consulting Ltd. and Northern Rockies Environmental Ltd. ere involved in the Bear Mountain Wind Power Project near Dawson Creek, British Columbia. This project became British Columbia’s first fully operational wind park. It is a 2-year project, which started in December 2007 and turbines are now fully operational.
Parts were trucked in from Thunder Bay, Ontario, and there are a total of 34 towers installed. On August 6, 2009, turbine number seven historically became the first wind turbine to deliver power to British Columbia's grid.
BV Land's ongoing involvement with the project included providing a number of services, such as consultation and notification with residents, the public, and First Nations in areas of traffic management and transmission line acquisition. BV Land also handled permitting where needed with forestry and other stakeholders, and provided security for the construction site.
NRES was responsible for completing the soil and vegetation assessments on the 3.5 mile transmission line, which ties into the BC Hydro switching station, and the transmission line along the Hart Highway. NRES was also responsible for completing the Agriculture Land Commission (ALC) applications required by the ALC for the project.
The Wind Power facility provides clean, renewable power to the South Peace region of British Columbia. For more information and updates on the Bear Mountain Wind Power project, you can visit the Altagas website at: www.altagas.ca
